AVI BHOORA – CHAIRPERSON ASPASA – INTRODUCTION
Avi after matriculating qualified himself with the following : Civil Engineering, Surface Blasting Certificate, Advanced Business Programme and an MBA.
In 1993 Avi was awarded “Man of Year” at the Concrete Society.
His employment experience has been very impressive and includes the following:
Contracts Manager at Stocks and Stocks
Senior Works Manager – Afrisam Coedmore Quarry
Regional Business Unit Manager – Alpha Readymix
Commercial Manager – NPC
Exco Member – NPC
While climbing the corporate ladder, he also became a Fellow at the Institute of Quarrying, joined the SA Institute of Civil Engineers, and has been a Trustee on a Provident & Pension Fund.
He also became the Chairperson of the Southern Africa Readymix Association in KZN and Vice Chairperson of Aspasa in KZN.
He has filled the position as MD of NPC Aggregates and Concrete.
In February 2011 Avi was elected as the Chairperson of Aspasa and serves on the Aspasa / Sarma Mancom

GERT COFFEE – ASPASA VICE CHAIRPERSON – INTRODUCTION
Gert Coffee obtained an Engineering Degree from the University of Stellenbosch and started working as an assistant Engineer at Provincial Roads Department in the Construction Equipment department.
After working as an Industrial Engineer at an Engineering works he again ended up as plant manager for a Civil Engineering Construction Company.
Gert’s first encounter with quarrying and crushing was in 1983, working with Style A Pegson equipment imported from the UK during the 1930’s. Since 1987 he has been involved in quarrying and crushing and allied activities like ready mixed concrete and brick making.
During his career he was involved in producing crushed aggregates in various Southern African countries like Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.
Gert has been involved with Aspasa since its inception. Over the years he was involved in Aspasa’s negotiations with Government Departments in their efforts to negotiate a better deal for the industry and to change the perception of the industry to being a professional industry, caring about Health and Safety and the Environment.

NICO PIENAAR – DIRECTOR OF ASPASA & SARMA
Nico Pienaar, Director of both Aspasa and Sarma has been in the position for the last 12 years.
Nico serves on various other Industry Boards.
Previously he worked in different industries and had focussed on legal, industrial relations and labour law. In his careers he also ran a union for some 4 ½ years and seems to always see things from a different angle.
Nico’s highest qualification is a Master’s Degree in Labour Law and Industrial Relations.
In his spare time he is an ardent 4 x 4 man.
